The following steps will install the manual RPM version of webmin on CentOS.

Ideal Prerequisites

Software you should have installed before attempting this task

  • CentOS 7


  • firewall will prevent access to Webmin

Install Instructions

Update your system:

sudo yum -y update

Download and install latest webmin RPM


Install dependencies:

sudo yum -y install perl perl-Net-SSLeay openssl perl-IO-Tty perl-Encode-Detect

Install Webmin:

sudo rpm -U webmin-current.rpm

Configuration Instructions

Start Webmin:

sudo service webmin start

Enable Webmin on system boot:

sudo chkconfig webmin on

Firewall Configuration

Determine if you are running firewalld:

sudo systemctl status firewalld


Continue following this chapter if previous output is similar otherwise the install is finished;

   Loaded: **loaded** (/usr/lib/systemd/system/firewalld.service; enabled; vendor preset: enabled)

 Main PID: 749 (firewalld)
   CGroup: /system.slice/firewalld.service
           └─749 /usr/bin/python -Es /usr/sbin/firewalld --nofork --nopid

Determine the correct zone:

sudo firewall-cmd --get-active-zones

Based on the output from the previous step use one of the following codes:

If output showed public:

sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --zone=public --add-port=10000/tcp


If output showed DMZ:

sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --zone=dmz --add-port=10000/tcp

Reload firewall:

sudo firewall-cmd --reload

Verify the port is open:

sudo firewall-cmd --list-ports
